A GUIDE FOR GENDER INCLUSIVE DESIGN IN LAGOS

Advocating for Gender-Inclusive Urban Design practices is a vast, inter-connected challenge that cannot be exhaustively covered in this guide. Instead, we hope to inspire designers and urban practitioners to reconsider their design decisions and include women as critical users when contributing to Lagos’s built environment. This guide includes:

  • A non-exhaustive design checklist that a designer can use to evaluate current designs and processes.
  • A gender-inclusive participatory process template for data collection and observation ensures that women’s voices are heard and considered.
  • Case Studies illustrate how other emerging economies have managed to implement gender-inclusive design principles into Urban Development projects.

The Gender Design Guideline has been developed, please see here a copy of the guidelines.
